Through the window, Gráinne’s castle, Achill Island
Original Painting
Medium: Palette knife acrylic painting on canvas.
Size: 14”x 30”
The solitary towerhouse at Kildavnet stands as a perfect example of a 16th-century Irish tower house. At the mouth of Achill Sound, it would have had a very strategic location, guarding the passage that connects Blacksod and Clew Bay.
Wandering inside, I looked out the now partially ruined window and wondered did the great woman herself admire this view, which, from the angle I was viewing, is unlikely to have changed greatly over the centuries.
