This painting is the most personal of all and nothing like my normal style. Indeed this was a stand alone painting for many years, hidden away for the heartache it reflected. The rearrangement tells of the truth of what it means to be fractured and of something I rarely, if ever, speak about in public; how a broken, abusive partner can destroy what should be a happy home. Addiction, and all that that word carries, is like an unending explosion in a pool of normality, the shock wave of ripples, causing years of forever coming up for air, of walking on eggshells in case of a repetition, and a holding back of natural creativity, just to survive. Only when the threat of their presence is finally removed, is there a chance to breathe, but not before many years of attempting to find a foothold in the world you should have enjoyed.
