There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a person achieving their potential, enjoying the process of creating and here at Cairn Hill Art, this is my aspiration, that all who come here, develop their own style and experience the joy of making art.

Back in 2005, I started my first classes since moving to this area in the late ‘90s. It was for a retirement group in Oldcastle which gradually grew into more groups asking me to come along to facilitate or teach in their organizations. Eventually I was involved in a business of which teaching art, was a core part.

I also ran a few private classes at my home but after the death of my dear mother whom I had cared for, I decided to add a more definite place in which to bring my dreams to life. So, in the summer of 2018 I spotted a log cabin owned by an architect in Mayo, going up for sale. Myself and family members travelled down and over the course of the next few weeks, we took it apart. It was like a giant jigsaw that landed on our driveway soon after, each long log numbered in sequence so we could put it back together.

A new roof was needed and under the advice of a retired builder who was a student and Youtube, I learned to slate and put in flooring and insulation. All in all, although it was very hard work, the result is a wonderful place of creativity, the natural wood adding a cosiness and homely atmosphere to all my students.

Here, I run classes for adults and children, with an emphasis on personal development as I guide their way. It is also my studio where on summers days I listen to the backdrop of nature while I paint. For any information on classes, please don’t hesitate to enquire or subscribe to the bi-monthly newsletter which includes up to date news and information on other areas of my art.

Art to me, is storytelling a means to visually capture the atmosphere and tell the tales behind our landscape or capture the essence of that person’s character.
